We had so many comments and questions about the alley closure we thought it deserves another post all its own.

𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐲 𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐝?
The owners are repairing their security wall damaged by Beryl and prefer no cars passing through during the work. You may have seen the damage and temporary repairs after the storm.
𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐠𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐲?
We don’t know yet, only that they’re focused on repairing the wall.
𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐰𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐲 𝐚 𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐥 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐭?
The City would have to purchase it.
𝐃𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐚 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐭?
We do not know the scope of their work, but they know permits are required and are in contact with the City.
𝐃𝐢𝐝 𝐢𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐚 𝐯𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐜𝐨𝐝𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐲?
No, it’s their private property, and no variance is required.

No, the owner has kept the City informed and is working cooperatively. They notified us about the alley closure so we could inform residents and follow proper procedures.
𝐖𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐲 𝐫𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐧?
That depends on the owner, as it’s their decision to use it as they wish. This alley is private property and not a street.
𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐭?
A permit application has been submitted for restaurant use. This is one step in many before a business opens. We do not know if/when they will open or the type of food that may be offered there.
𝐀𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐲
The old Vroom/Texas Direct/Mall property is split between two owners, making permitting, leasing, and repairs more complex. The City works closely with both owners to ensure code compliance and maintains a strong, communicative relationship with them.
