City of Meadows Place awarded grant for parks Improvements
The city of Meadows Place Parks and Recreation Department applied for and was awarded grant funds from the state again. Phase IV parks improvements will be achieved due to the matching funds of $75,000 from a grant program designed for small communities.
This program implemented guidelines which made competition more on a level playing ground for cities like ours. We are excited to brag that we have been awarded this grant historically for the fourth time in the short history of this new program. This is a record for the state of Texas and certainly historical for Fort Bend County.
Meadows Place parks improvement plans for this cycle include a water feature located just south of the field house at 12001 Brighton. Alongside the water feature will be a foot bridge-fishing pier, lights, shaded picnic tables and a group shade shelter. Landscaping along with a recreational hill and wetlands water garden are also part of this project including additional interpretive signage.
Funds used for this project are joint effort contributions from Fort Bend County Road and Bridge Department, various youth groups and church donations within the city. Bond money was also set aside for these parks improvements many years ago. Creative planning and conservative budgeting has been the key to achieving these goals for our parks/ Modeland says.
Funds awarded through these grants have more then quadrupled bond money set aside for parks improvements.
